Doğsan’s 55 Year Manufacturing Journey

Since 1970, we have continued our journey with a focus on quality, continuity and local production.

Every form of production in healthcare represents not only a product, but also trust, continuity and ethical responsibility. As a pioneer in surgical suture production in Türkiye, Doğsan places this approach at the center of every stage of production.Founded in Trabzon in 1970, Doğsan has played a pioneering role in the sector as the first surgical suture manufacturer in Türkiye, as well as in the Balkans and the Middle East. The company set out with the goal of bringing the power of local production together with human health. The vision of Founder Pharmacist Salim Saruhan, based on “producing and creating value for the lands he lived in,” transformed Doğsan from an industrial initiative into a production structure with strong ties to its region. This vision forms the foundation of Doğsan’s 55-year rooted and sustainable production approach.
Doğsan’s development goes beyond a technical manufacturing success and also includes an industrial approach with a strong social impact. Establishing the factory in Trabzon was a bold step for its time, while also representing an important contribution to the participation of women in working life in the region. Over the years, different generations have come together under the same roof, making labor at Doğsan not merely a workforce, but one of the essential elements of corporate memory and continuity. From Local Production to Global StandardsIn line with developing technology, rising quality standards and changing global expectations, Doğsan continues to strengthen its production steadily under the leadership of General Manager Kamil Saruhan.
With its expanding product portfolio, Turkish-origin Doğsan surgical sutures are positioned among products that are trusted globally. Taking international quality standards as a basis, Doğsan demonstrated in its 55th year that this approach is also maintained in compliance with European Union regulations through the completion of MDR certification for 11 of its products. This compliance is considered the result of a holistic quality approach covering all processes from production to post-market surveillance activities.
MDR certification represents an important milestone that opens the way for Doğsan’s export activities in international markets, while also strengthening the brand’s global reliability and sustainable growth target.
At Doğsan, production is not seen as a process limited only to the factory line. At the center of this holistic approach, extending from marketing to post-market surveillance activities, are teams that work with care and dedication for human health and with a high sense of responsibility. Every product that safely reaches surgeons’ hands is the direct result of meticulously managed processes and collective effort.A Legacy Passed Down Across Generations Since 1970While advanced technologies are used extensively in production, the decisive role of human labor is never overlooked. In the manufacturing of these products, which are highly sensitive in terms of surgical success, critical stages such as needle-thread attachment are carried out under a microscope with great care.
Seeing its products used safely in surgical units deepens the meaning of production for Doğsan. With more than 100 congress participations and course supports each year, accompanying surgeons in their first suture experiences represents the field-based reflection of this connection. At Doğsan’s 55th anniversary ball held this year, different generations came together under the same roof, from employees who have worked under the Doğsan umbrella for more than 40 years to team members in the early years of their careers. This special gathering strongly demonstrated that continuity and corporate commitment are carried not only into the present, but also into the future. During the evening, medals and plaques were presented to honor the efforts of Doğsan employees, especially filigree plaques symbolizing long-standing dedication and loyalty. As it has for 55 years, Doğsan continues its activities today with a production approach that remains loyal to its roots, open to innovation and centered on human life. With its contribution to the development of surgical suture production in Türkiye and its presence in international markets, Doğsan continues its efforts to represent local production on a global scale, generating approximately 35% of its sales from exports to more than 50 countries.
